Help Us Help Fathers

The H.O.M.E (Helping Our Men Emerge) Temporary Transitional Living program is a lifeline for custodial fathers facing homelessness in Connecticut. Reality Based Services recognized the critical need to support underserved men in the community, especially single fathers who often lack resources and services tailored to their unique circumstances. With an acute understanding of the challenges these fathers face, Reality Based Services designed the H.O.M.E program to prevent the heartbreaking scenario where children are placed in foster care due to unstable housing situations.

One of the primary goals of the H.O.M.E program is to prevent fathers from losing custody of their children to the child protective system. It is a stark reality that when a single father loses his capacity to maintain housing, the likelihood of his children entering foster care increases significantly. While shelters for women and children exist nationally, there is a glaring lack of similar resources for men in Connecticut and across the country. The H.O.M.E program aims to bridge this gap by providing temporary transitional housing assistance specifically for custodial fathers, offering them a chance to regain stability and reunite with their families.

By providing essential resources and support services such as mental health and wellness services, assistance with state benefits applications, childcare services, male support groups, financial literacy training, and access to family-themed events and extracurricular activities, the H.O.M.E program empowers fathers to rebuild their lives and ensure the health, well-being, safety, and permanency of their children.

Through transitional housing and comprehensive support, fathers in the program can overcome homelessness, strengthen their connections within the community, and take positive steps toward a brighter future for themselves and their families. As Reality Based Services seeks grants and donations to operationalize this vital program, they are paving the way for a national model that addresses the urgent needs of custodial fathers and their children, fostering stronger, more resilient communities in the process.

Your support for Reality Based Services helps create a stronger, more resilient community where every child, man, and family has the opportunity to thrive. Through grants, donations, and community partnerships, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can build a brighter future for Waterbury and ensure that no one is left behind.
